ONLINE REVIEW UNITS 1-3 SPOTLIGHT 4

ONLINE SESSION: REVIEW U1-4 SPOTLIGHT 4

Are you ready to show how much you've learnt so far this year?

VOCABULARY
  • Do you remember how to describe someone's appearance?:
         -  Adjectives to describe appearance

         -  Adjectives 2 for people's apperance

         -  People's hair 

         - CLOTHES & ACCESSORIES

  •     ED or ING ADJECTIVES? Remember: 'ed' to say how someone feels or is and 'ing' to qualify someone or something that produces that feeling. eg. The film is boring, so I am bored.

  • CITY PLACES: How many places in town can you mention? What's a promenade? and a hardware store?

          - MORE EXTREME ADJECTIVES
  • THE FIVE SENSES: Do you remember the names of the five senses? Have a go with this activity.
   
  •  WORDS AS NOUNS AND VERBS: Some words can be both a noun and also a verb in different contexts. Eg. ' I usually walk to school' (verb) // 'Let's go for a walk' (noun)

GRAMMAR

  • Let's start revising the form and use of the PRESENT SIMPLE to talk about habits and general facts about life:
          - PRESENT SIMPLE AFFIRMATIVE or NEGATIVE? 
  •    Now have a look at the PRESENT CONTINUOUS to describe what someone is doing at the moment:
         - PRESENT CONTINUOUS AFFIRMATIVE or NEGATIVE? 
        
         - MISCELLANEOUS ON PRESENT CONTINUOUS. Three activities to say what people are doing, the clothes they're wearing and describe a scene.

               - PRESENT SIMPLE or CONTINUOUS? Don't forget the use of the present continuous for future arrangements: ' I'm meeting my friend Julia next Friday'

  • Let's talk about THE PAST:
         - PAST SIMPLE: 'climbed', 'saw', 'didn't climb', 'didn't see'. Don't forget to differentiate regular and irregular verbs:
              * FILL THE GAPS 1    FILL THE GAPS 2

              * PICTURES, VERBS AND TEXT 

        -  PAST CONTINUOUS to describe what was happening at a moment in the past: ' was eating', 'were going', 'wasn't looking', 'weren't doing'

              * FILL THE GAP to revise the form

              * Choose the most APPROPRIATE OPTION to describe what they were doing at that time in the past.

      - Now, try both together:

         * PAST SIMPLE or CONTINUOUS 1: write the verbal form to complete the sentences. Pay attention to the verb used in the questions.

         * MIXTURE EXERCISE on the past simple or past continuous: You can also practise the use of 'when' and 'while' here.

       - Let's practise how to express habits in the past. We use ' used to' 'didn't use to'.


- PRESENT PERFECT to talk about:
           .Past actions with present results: 'I've cut my finger'
           . experiences: 'My dad has never flown by plane'
           . situations that started in the past and still continue: ' I've lived in my town

             * A LOVE LETTER: fill the gaps with the present perfect form.
